To Catch a Dream: Words in Flight

It's finished!
In January I jumped.  I signed up for The Fiction Project and set about the task of making this little book.  On my morning walks with my Labradors, words would flutter about my head.  I jotted down these morning words and phrases when ever I found a moment.
When the blank black journal arrived in the mail, it took over a month to get the courage to start.  I had to make a conscientious decision to just play, and I finally dove in.
Finding the time to "play" was difficult.  I had to give myself permission to enter into this creative world and play.  I pretended to be a real artist... a real writer... creating away in my art studio.
And on these days I was free.

The Fiction Project in Flight

It's quiet here on this blog.  I've been busy working on The Fiction Project.  Trying anyway, to carve out the time in the flurry of spring activities...school art show, middle school musical scenery, field trips, Confirmation, graduation, 2 proms!
My theme... In Flight.  Titled, To Catch a Dream: Words in Flight.  Deadline approaching!  Hoping the words fluttering about my head will settle on the page!  Praying for more hours in the day.

Yesterday...she turns 18

Yesterday, I was navigating the roads of new mama-hood.
Yesterday, my dream of being a mother came true.
Yesterday, she turned 18.
    Today, I'm navigating the roads
                  of letting her go.

First Love

Finding out you’d soon enter my world
Worrying that I might lose you
Feeling the fluttering inside me
Gazing at your eyes for the first time
Amazed at the miracle of you.

Enticing you to take those first steps
Fearing that you would stumble and fall
Celebrating each year of your life
Smiling at the sound of your giggle
Amazed at the miracle of you.

Encouraging you to try something new
Rejoicing as you crossed the finish
Hearing your laughter with friends
Seeing your eyes light up over love
Amazed at the miracle of you.

Watching you drive down the rode away
Wondering if you were afraid
Waiting for you to return home safe
Thanking the angels for keeping watch
Amazed at the miracle of you.

Hoping… & longing… & praying…
that you’ll seek me again for wisdom
that you will one day like me again
that you will gaze at me with wonder
that you will remember your first love
that you’ll come to know the  loving soul
that lives within the mother who is
amazed at the miracle of you.

Fearlessness is Bliss...

For the past 6 months this blog has been my secret playground...a place to pretend I'm a writer, a place to dream of being an artist and a photographer, a place to scrapbook my favorite images and quotes and journal entries.
When I was little, I carved a niche out of my tiny closet; the walls plastered with Leif Garrett, Donny Osmond, and David Cassidy.  I'd sneak away and plug Leif's latest 8-track into the player and I'd just sit, draw, and dream.
Today I'm letting a couple of my dear friends into my hideaway, into my playground!  I'm scared to death they'll think it's weird.  I never dreamed I'd feel so vulnerable.  What will they think of me?
Today's words for the day are "fearlessness is bliss".
I'm letting go of fear.
I'm taking a leap into bliss.

A Walk by Her Room...

i walk by her room everyday, multiple times a day...this room occupied by Grace...which at one time occupied two older sisters who graduated to the rooms on the third floor.  how quickly the time flies.  today something made me stop and look and snap a picture of this grace-filled room.  something about the artfully & perfectly displayed birthday stash that Miss Grace arranged at the foot of her bed made me take notice.  I know it won't be long... before the pink ruffled girly sanctuary space will be replaced with a grace-filled room of her own.

Grace for President!

If Grace were president
art class would be everyday
daydreaming would be homework
there would be three day weekends.

Grace turns 12 today
and she has a day off school,
because today...she is president!
Today is her day!
Today is her birthday!

And today she has no homework
she has a whole day to play
a whole day to dream.

  Make a wish!

Inspiration - Not Aspiration...

remembering how excited i was to discover my photo was chosen for the photo of the month in the local paper.  totally unexpected surprise that tuesday morning!
now readers are asked to vote for their favorite of the top ten photos of the year.  funny how my enthusiasm quickly turns to vulnerability, as my photo is compared to others.

remembering the joy that was captured on that day as we took in the beauty around us and just played with dear friends.
remembering my daughter saying, "Mom, look...that would make a great photo!"  and we all clicked away and waved.  remembering the bliss i felt as my girl was able to notice the beauty in that moment.

far away in the sunshine, i sometimes aspire to be a photographer.
i may not reach this aspiration, but i can look up, and i can look down, and i can see God's beauty over and under my feet.  i can look through the eye of my camera and i can capture His inspiration.  and i can revel in the joy when my daughters can see it too.

vote for your favorite here.
